Creating new blog posts and other content is a LOT of work.  What if I could show you how to repurpose your blog content in a way that was quick and easy?  Then you could get more eyeballs on your content by doing LESS work?  Have I got your attention?  I hope so.  I know I like getting MORE with doing LESS.  And it’s actually pretty easy.

What Does it Mean to Repurpose Your Blog Content?

Let’s start by taking about what I mean by how to repurpose your blog content for more traffic.  You’ve just spent hours and hours creating a piece of content.  Rather than go onto the next blog post, let’s pause and see if there are some additional ways you can re-use the content you just worked so hard for.

One of the best examples I’ve seen of repurposing your blog content was at a blog conference I went to last year.

(sidebar – I am ALL about blog conferences – I think they are the best source of inexpensive learning you can get for your blog.  Hop over to my tab on blog conferences for a whole lotta information about blog conferences.)

Anyway, one of the conference speakers was a food blogger and she shared how she bulk produces recipe content for her site.  I was super impressed because it was really smart.  She created a fantastic BBQ glaze.  So, first she used it for a recipe for BBQ shrimp skewers.  Then she used the same glaze and same shrimp for a BBQ shrimp po’ boy sandwich.  Then she used some pork and the glaze again for BBQ pork ribs in the crockpot.  Add a little bourbon to the glaze and a different cut of pork and it became bourbon BBQ pork chops.  Then she threw in a post about dressing up leftover chicken with the extra BBQ glaze.  BRILLIANT, right??

And because she was super organized about it, she was able to make and photograph all five recipes in the same day.  She had all her recipe ingredients ready, all her photo props in order and had brought in an assistant to help her move it along quickly.  Then she was able to drip the posts out on her site over a couple of months so that nobody would realize that she was recycling basically the same recipe over and over again.  That’s my idea of a CLEVER way to repurpose your blog content without doing a ton of work!

So, how could you use this tip for your own site?  Could you stretch your content out into a 3 or 4 part blog series?  Or could you reword your content in a way that looks like two completely different posts?  After all, they would likely be seen by completely different audiences at different times.  When you really set your mind to repurpose your blog content, you can come up with lots of new ideas.

Repurpose your blog content for more traffic

How to Repurpose Blog Content

STEP ONE – Find Your BEST content to start repurposing your blog content.

Go into your Google Analytics to see what your top posts are with the most traffic to them.  See which one has the best possibilities for repurposing.  Let’s say it’s a post on how to clean your house in 45 minutes or less.  It’s obviously popular since it’s got some high traffic to it, so let’s give it a good boost.

STEP TWO – Do SEO Research on your Topic

Get a piece of paper and brainstorm at least 10 slightly different titles for this post.  They might be:

  • Speed cleaning tips to clean your house fast
  • Tidy up your home quickly for company
  • Tips and tricks for a clean house in a hurry
  • Clean your house top to bottom in less than an hour.

You get the idea.  Focus on the your SEO keywords and just flip things around a bit.   If you wanted to, these could even be 10 new posts on your topic, but for now, just focus on your keywords and coming up with great titles.

STEP THREE – Maximize your Social Media Reach

Now we’re cooking!  Go into Canva or whatever you use and create 10 brand new Pinterest pins with your titles.  Then create similar images in different sizes for Facebook and Instagram.  Batching these tasks is an efficient use of your time.

Then go out and schedule them in your favorite scheduler, but like the recipe blogger – don’t put them all in a row.  Instead, space them out by a few days or even a week so you are hitting different audiences.

Bazinga!  Now you’ve got 30 new chances to get new eyes on your top post!

STEP FOUR – World Domination!

Now it gets even better.  Now you can take your original post and spread it around to different platforms.  You can just read the post as a YouTube video or a podcast.  You could snip it up into a series of brief tips on Facebook Live or your Instagram stories.  If you’ve got several related posts on this topic, you could even turn it into an ebook or a mini-course!

Now you’ve got new folks coming to your site from all these different platforms and you haven’t even had to recreate the wheel!  That’s the way a BOSS does it.

STEP FIVE – Lather, rinse, repeat!

If this strategy worked this well for your top post, keep going down the list to find other popular posts you can use to repurpose your blog content.  dust off and get them shining again.
